Victory for Love and Self-Ownership

It was a historic week in politics-- a topic that often inspires hard-charging music. In Texas, Sen. Wendy Davis single-handedly fended off a bill that would essentially shut down most of the state's abortion clinics. She filibustered for women's rights for more than 11 hours, prohibited from sitting, eating, drinking, leaning or even using the restroom. (As of press time, the effort to undermine the filibuster has not been successful.) Then, over in Washington, D.C., the Supreme Court struck down two laws that impeded on gay marriage rights. Due to the rulings, same-sex couples can once again wed legally in California, and married homosexual couples in states that recognize their status can now be eligible for federal benefits. To celebrate these victories, we've put together a Spotify playlist that high-fives the activists in the women's and gay rights camps: Victory for Love and Self-Ownership
