What We're Digging Right Now: Cocofunka

Cocofunka call their new album Chúcaro, or “wild” in English. Twelve untamed tracks embrace Costa Rica’s native sounds of soca – a rhythmic calypso style – along with four-on-the-floor post-punk and ’80s pop.

The album’s eponymous lead single sounds like Phoenix vacationing in the Amazon. Javier Arce’s husky, dulcet vocals coat Nacho Paez’s angular guitars, while Horacio Paris bangs out a shuffling beat. The song is about an inebriated couple on the run, and its literal video proves that youth is wasted on the young.

Cocofunka’s Chúcaro is out February 26, 2016. You can purchase the single at their Bandcamp page.
